A Volunteer Homecoming: Alemka Berliner
We wanted to give a special shout out to our returning volunteer, Alemka Berliner. Alemka originally started volunteering with Culmore Clinic back in March of 2018 as a Volunteer Counselor. We were terribly sad to see her go in May of 2019 when she had to relocate, but were all the more elated to hear of her return this month! Here’s what Alemka has to say about why she loves to volunteer with us:
As a volunteer, I am honored to be able to use my counseling skills in the service of our patients. It is professionally gratifying and humbling at the same time, as counseling can make such a significant impact in one's life. As one of my clients shared at the end of the session "Once I was in a church and was passing by an open door where a group of people was practicing some songs. They invited me in and I sang with them. I felt elated, I felt I am above my troubles, and I was in a place where l am safe, feeling good. For the first time in many years, I now feel the same. This is what counseling means to me."
