Nursing Student Spotlight: Karla

Karla is one of our wonderful nursing students who is currently on her community health rotation for nursing school through Shenandoah University. She is in her last semester of the accelerated second degree nursing program: a 15-month program compared to the traditional four year programs.

During her spring semester in 2018, Karla volunteered at Culmore Clinic along with another Shenandoah nursing student. They both loved the work and the patients and spoke highly of Culmore Clinic to their academic advisors, who in turn decided to partner with us. Culmore Clinic is now an official site for the accelerated nursing program’s community health rotation!

Karla’s favorite aspect of working at Culmore Clinic is the more personal interactions with patients and being able to see the ways she is able to help out and make a difference with them. As a fluent Spanish speaker, Karla is also able to interpret for patients when they see the providers or other nurses.

When not at Culmore Clinic, Karla enjoys spending time with her family and friends as well as exercising when she has the chance, given her demanding school schedule. We are so grateful to have Karla and other nursing students who love helping our patients and wish them all the best for their future endeavors in the healthcare field!
