Volunteer of the Month: Fred Pugarelli
This month on the blog, we would like to highlight the marvelous contributions of our volunteer Fred Pugarelli. Fred provides such a welcoming presence at the front desk, and has been our Chief Technology Officer in Charge of Acquisitions, guiding us through critical equipment purchases with invaluable insights.
Fred was born and raised in New York City, attending Columbia College for undergrad and NYU for graduate school. He served in the US Army during the Vietnam War, then moved to Alexandria, VA to work in civil service. In his free time, he organized service and advocacy activities in the area. Later, he assisted his former boss in creating and managing the first commercial email system tied to the internet with MCI. After 20 years with MCI, he retired to pursue more social advocacy work. Fred worked at St. Anthony of Padua, helping the parish to further engage with our organization. He then followed his priest Fr. Tuck to St. Charles, where he focused on advocacy for comprehensive immigration reform. Fred retired for the third time when Fr. Tuck left St. Charles. Fred and his wife have been involved supporters of the Clinic since its beginnings, and joined as an official volunteer in 2015. We are very grateful for his continued support and the expertise and passion he brings to Culmore Clinic. Thank you, Fred!
